Beginners can have fun with these ” Monkey Matching Piano Game Cards” to learn about note values or rests.
Idea 1: Place the note and the rest cards with 1 monkey underneath each one. The teacher calls out a specific note or rest. When the student identifies the correct one, he gets a monkey. You can play with multiple students too.
Idea 2: Place the note and rest cards down with the number of monkeys under each card corresponding to the value of the note or rest. The teacher calls out a specific note or rest and asks the student to identify which one is correct. When the student guesses a note, she can count the number of monkeys found under the card to see if she is right. If she is right she gets the monkeys.
Idea 3: Place monkeys down in groups of 1, 2, 3, and 4 in front of the student. Have the student draw a note or rest from a pile. The student then must place the monkey on the correct group of monkeys corresponding to the value of the note or rest.
Make up your own versions of the Monkey Matching Game Cards to reinforce learning of the value of each note or rest.
