The Value of ‘Quick Win’ Piano Pieces

Sometimes things get kinda crazy.

Keeping all of my students onboard and moving ahead can be quite a challenge. Students get bored, students are busy, families are stressed, and sometimes students just aren’t ‘feeling it’ when it comes to piano practice.

Let’s face it, learning to play a musical instrument well is not for the faint of heart. It’s at least a ten-year project. And ten years will get most people to the point of being pretty good…if they practice and apply themselves.

Every now and then, my musicians need a break.

But we all know musicians can’t take breaks. Not for very long anyway. It doesn’t take much time off before things start to go backward. It’s like going to the gym. You can get into great shape, but stop working out for a couple of months, and before you know it, you’re not in such great shape anymore.

So instead of taking time off, I give my students some ‘quick win’ pieces. Easy to learn pieces that sound great and feel great to play.

Here are some of the amazing benefits of ‘quick win’ pieces for students.

  • Motivation – Students are motivated to play beautiful, fun music.

  • Confidence – Learning something quickly helps students to feel like they are good musicians

  • Memorization – Students can memorize several ‘quick-win’ pieces. This helps with overall musical memory.

  • Musicality – Quick-win pieces give students the chance to focus on dynamics, articulation, tempo, and phrasing.

  • Technique – Quick-win piece gives students the opportunity to concentrate on hand position, body position, and pedaling.

  • Fluency – Quick-win pieces build pianistic fluency. Students experience playing in a beautiful, flowing manner.

  • Entertainment – Quick-win pieces are great for recitals, impromptu piano playing, or entertaining family and friends.

There are some benefits for teachers, too!

  • Fun – Quick-win pieces are fun to teach.

  • Easy – Quick win pieces are easy to teach, which gives teachers a break from  more strenuous repertoire.

  • Student retention – Quick win pieces make parents happy because their kids sound great and are happy to practice. Adult students feel like professionals when they are able to play fluently.

Summer is upon us. My students are required to keep going with lessons over the summer, but I want them to enjoy their piano time. So, I am writing and teaching lots of quick-win music for them.

Everything I create for my students, you can share with yours. The music is tested by my own students. If they like it, I publish it.

I have added a checkbox under the ‘Level’ category. Check ‘Quick Win’ and discover all of Paloma Piano’s Quick Win Pieces.
