5-Step Back-to-School Scheduling
Yep! It’s that time of year again.
Back to school.
Students take their last-minute vacations, do their school shopping, and get ready to start back to school.
Now I have to set up my schedule and begin onboarding new students. It’s never a straight shot. Here are my Back-to-School Scheduling Tips.
- Print out a weekly schedule. You can get this one for free right here on my website along with the “Welcome Back Packet.”
- Fill in the names of students who have been taking their usual times lessons all summer.
- Then I take out last year’s schedule and add the students who have taken my studio’s required number of summer lessons into their time slots from the last school year. If these families know what time they would like to have for the upcoming year, I move them to the new time.
- Add new students to the schedule with the understanding that some flexibility may be needed going forward.
- Send out an email to the remaining students I wish to continue with, let them know the schedule is filling up, and they should get back to me as soon as possible to secure a spot. Add them to the schedule.
- Get ready for the chaos and changing around.
That’s pretty much it. It’s always crazy at the beginning of the school year. After many years of doing this, I have found that somehow it all works out.
I have learned to remain calm and ask my families to be open to changes. I already know that sports and other activities will take precedence and disrupt the schedule. I accept this.
It’s a great time of year. Full of surprises, potential, and adventure. I can’t wait!
Happy Teaching in 2026-2027
